The ""Indian and the Puritan"" is moved from its original location, an isle of safety in the middle of Washington Place, to the tip of Washington Park, also in front of the Free Public Library in 1977. The moving of the sculpture was necessary due to a federal intersection reconstruction project. The former site also allowed for damage of the sculpture by automobiles.
